It's funny, I was having a conversation on GDP equating to "success" just yesterday. Frankly, a nation's GDP is not really a good indicator of success. However, I don't think one can entirely argue with three decades of constant growth. However, such GDP cannot last forever. There will come a day when China's economy is not the wonder of the modern era.
Say what one will, the traditional Marxist notion of a planned economy does have stability going for it. Now if one could figure out the proper way to make the planned economy flexible enough to deal with the fickle nature of consumer goods...
Sorry but Dengist reformism has led to a situation of rampant nepotism, unrestrained bureaucratic corruption and a larger private sector than the UK! Social mobility is lower now than any time since the fall of the Qing dynasty in 1911!
That is essentially my point. I am no great lover of China's methods, and that is why I'd brought up the contrast of the more traditional Marxian system. Modern China is only remotely connected to the Marxist model, and that has caused great success in one sense, but at such cost to any sort of legitimate Socialist system. While a more traditional centrally planned system a la the USSR would have it's great challenges, it would have remained much more true to the Socialist vision of a society working in concert with itself to truly succeed.
What China has now is nothing short of disgraceful to any Communist, much less Leftist. Not as disgraceful as the utter wreck that is North Korea, but disgraceful all the same.
The card is free for download and printing. I'd suggest a decent card stock paper. I wish I could say I have a couple hundred of these sitting around, professionally made, but I can't afford a printing service.
Trust me, if I could send very nice membership cards out to each and every one of our comrades, I certainly would!
